CONSTRUCTION:
- Two boxes are taken so that one can slide into another with no gap in between.
- One side of each box is cut open.
- On the opposite face of larger box, make a small hole in the middle.
- A square of side about 5 cm is cut open in the middle of the opposite face of the smaller box.
- The cut square portion was covered with tracing paper (Translucent Screen).
- The smaller box is slide inside the larger one with hole, in such a way that Side with tracing paper is inside.
- Your pinhole camera is ready to use.
WORKING:
- Holding the pin-hole camera, some distant objects are looked through the open face of the smaller box.
- The smaller box is moved forward or backward till we get a picture on the tracing paper pasted at other end.
Pin-hole images are different from shadows, as they are
- Colourful
- Upside down
Natural Pin-hole Camera:
- The gaps between the leaves act as pinholes.
- The small circular patches of sunlight under a tree are actually the pin-hole images of the sun.
Formation of pin-hole images is possible because light moves in a straight path.
