Rest:
If an object does not change its position with respect to time, then the object is said to in rest.
Motion:
If an object changes its position from one place to another with respect to time, then the object is said to be in motion.
Types of Motion:
If an object does not change its position with respect to time, then the object is said to in rest.
Motion:
If an object changes its position from one place to another with respect to time, then the object is said to be in motion.
Types of Motion:
- Rectilinear motion
- Motion along a straight line.
- Ex.- March-past of soldiers, motion of a vehicle on a straight road, etc.
- Circular Motion
- Distance of a moving object with respect to a fixed object is same.
- Ex.- Motion of blades of a fan, Rotation of earth around its axis, etc.
- Periodic Motion
- Repetition of motion of an object after a fixed interval of time.
- Ex.- Revolution of earth around the sun, the wheel movement of a sewing machine, etc.
In some practical examples, one object can perform 2 or more types of motion at a time. Some of them are:
- In a sewing machine, the wheel performs the circular motion, while the needle performs the periodic motion.
- Rolling of a ball on the ground undergoes both rotational as well as rectilinear motion.
- Motion of blades of a fan performs both circular and periodic motion.
